SPITTIN' IMAGE

June 24, 2010

Sometimes I look at my children and I see hints and images of myself. Or I look at my dad, and I see me in my dad. But these images are not perfect, not the spittin' image!

Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."
Jesus answered, "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father."
- John 14:8,9 NRS

Like many of us, Philip wants to connect with God, with the gods. Yet consistently Jesus says, "When you see me, you see the Father." Jesus says, "I am the spittin' image of the Father." Or to respond to Philip, "If you want me to show you the Father, look at me."

Yes, it's the offense of the good news of Jesus Christ, but it's also the power of the faith: Jesus is God. That's why we worship Jesus, the Christ.
Joyfully,
