OUR STILL POINT Vol 9 No 19

June 1, 2010

Dear Friend,

Sometimes life feels like a form of emotional bungee jumping as we bounce up and down experiencing the joys that pull us up and the anxieties that pull us down.

In a way it’s like walking through a marshy swamp.  A false step and down you go.  A bit of grassy soil upon which to rest and up goes your spirit.

What we need is a rock that is always there for us no matter where our bungee jumping emotions are taking us in our encounters with the complex experiences of life.

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the desolate pit, *out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.” Psalm 40:1-2*

David found just such a Rock. The Lord who loves him and who loves you and me!

There is no Holy One like the Lord, no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” I Samuel 2:2

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,” II Samuel 22:2

A poster I saw many years ago said, “He is the still point of the turning world.”

Indeed he is the still point of your turning life.  So let us join David when he wrote, “From the end of the earth I call to you, when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I;” Psalm 61:2
