UNRECOGNIZED

Today is Good Friday. On this day so long ago, an innocent one died on a cross, and most completely failed to recognize not only what he was doing, but especially who he was.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him....Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God...

What is known as the Prologue to John's Gospel continues introducing God in the flesh, Jesus the Christ. The light is present to shine on all, but John tells us here that he was unrecognized. Yet there is a triumphant promise also connected: "to all who did receive him...the right to become children of God."

On Good Friday they mocked him, ignored him, spat upon him, and a few bowed the knee to him. But recognize him or not, it doesn't change the truth of who he is, God in the flesh, Jesus Christ. Recognizing him makes all the difference.
