MIRROR

March 12, 2010

Mirrors show us what is, not what will be. No future in a mirror, just the present. Yet there is a connection; the Bible tells us so.

Those who listen to the word but do not do what it says are like people who look at their faces in a mirror and, after looking at themselves, go away and immediately forget what they look like. But those who look intently into the prefect law that gives freedom and continue in it--not forgetting what they have heard but doing it--they will be blessed in what they do.
- James 1:23-25 TNIV

James is not into just giving us something to think about, or to gaze upon, but he's into action, living the faith. He uses the illustration of the glance in the mirror, but a moment later forgetting what you've seen, what you look like. That's a faith that goes in one ear and out the other. That's no faith, says James. Be do-ers of the word, not merely thinkers of the word.

Mirrors are only in the present. The faith of Christ is for the present, and summons us into the future, our very next moments and beyond. And we're told there is blessing in doing. "Blessed in what they DO!"
Joyfully,
