THE WAY OF ALL

December 18, 2009

A course in logic and philosophy taught me, "every" or "all," are universal inclusives, meaning there are no exceptions. King David in his last words to the new king, his son, Solomon, starts with the universal inclusive.

"I am about to go the way of all the earth," [David] said. "So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his law and regulations, as written in the law of Moses."

- 1 Kings 2:2,3 TNIV

Whether you live as a king or a servant, all people follow the inevitable path from life to death. David reminds his son of this truth in his last words and instructions. David is no exception, nor are we.

His words to Solomon call his son to accountability. How we live and who we honor and serve in that life makes all the difference. It's the way of all. Yes, all live, and all die, but how we live on that way, that's what it's all about.
Joyfully,
