Dear Friend,

I love Thanksgiving!  Somehow the confluence of family and friends and of special foods such as our family’s turkey dressing and pumpkin pie make it a remarkably wonderful day.

At the same time Thanksgiving offers the opportunity for a “time out” actually to be thankful.  There is so much on our mind in these days!

Consider the intensity of our day and how much we are concerned about:

     Unemployment

          The economy

               Fears about flu

                    Those in harm’s way

Other challenges in our personal lives and in our world

It’s easy for these and other matters to create an aura of insecurity and to race through life with an unceasing busyness coping with life’s demands.

Thanksgiving is a good time to STOP!  To take that time out!

Take some time Thursday in the midst of what is often a busy day just to sit and reflect on the presence, goodness and love of our Lord and give thanks!

Read Scripture such as I Chronicles 16, Psalm 34, Psalm 103 and Psalm 145 and allow the verses to turn your thoughts toward God.

Reflect on the people, events and things in your life in the past year that have been and are a blessing to you and give thanks!
