PRAYER PERFUME

November 24, 2009

Realtors know that fresh baking bread is a great aroma to have in a house when people are thinking about buying. Perfume has been known to stop a man in his tracks.

Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God's people, on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God's people, went up before God from the angel's hand.
- Revelation 8:3,4 TNIV

As John's vision unfolds, the Seventh Seal is opened, and the angels announce a host of horrors to be unleashed. But, there is also perfume in the air. The perfume is not merely the smoke of the incense, but the smell of the prayers of the faithful people. Prayer is a strategic foundation of discipleship in good times and bad times.

Prayers to God are like the smell of baking bread or perfume. Prayer catches God's attention. Prayer pleases God. It smells good. Prayer is a pleasant fragrance in God's nostrils.
Joyfully,
