SACRED RHYTHMS Vol 8 No 35

September 15, 2009

Dear Friend,

Years ago Edward Bosworth said, "What gets your attention gets you!" In the fall it is easy for our shear busyness to get our attention.

Consider two practices that had the attention of Jesus.

"In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed." Mark 1:35*

"Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, because Jesus often met there with his disciples." John 18:2

Jesus made time with God and time with his disciples in face-to-face conversation a priority in his life.

At this time of year it is easy to be consumed with many wonderful activities and find ourselves having less face time with our Lord and with our Lord's people.

I urge you to make a time of daily prayer and Bible reading central to your personal life.

Join with God's people in worship every week you are physically able to attend.

If you are not in a face-to-face Bible study or fellowship group with a few other believers, make such a gathering equally central to your life.

Again:  what gets your attention gets you. May that be our Lord and his people!

With joy - E. Stanley Ott
