THEY REMEMBERED HIS WORDS

March 16, 2009

As I reread the gospel story, it occurs to me the significance of the word, "remember," and how many times remembrance is part of the story.

"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 'The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'" Then they remembered his words.
- Luke 24:5-8 TNIV

They'd heard Jesus' words with their ears, to be sure. Yet those words did not register, they were forgotten. However, now that the dreadful events of his trial, crucifixion and burial were behind them, those words trickle back into their memories. "Don't you remember what he told you?"
"Wait a minute, that's right," they began to say to themselves.

And as they remember, the words are the very things that begin to fuel a life-giving faith in light of a risen Christ. "He is not here; he is risen." "That's right, I remember that!" I pray we remember THAT today and all our days.
Joyfully,
