Building One Another

BE CENTERED Vol 14 No 12

March 24, 2015

Dear Friend,

Glancing at a “to-do list” of some sixty items I began to think about Stephen Covey’s counsel to separate what is urgent from what is important and thought, “But it is ALL urgent and important!”

That reminded me of another great word. This one from Bob Oerter who was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colorado many years ago. Speaking to a bunch of crazy busy thirty-somethings he said, “Learn to live with the load of the unfinished!”

That has been a wonderful word I have returned to many times. It reminds me that the real issue isn’t my “to-do list” but am I centered on the Lord who loves me and the people who support me?

The Quakers have a wonderful expression, “to center down” that invites you to clear your mind of clutter, quiet your heart, and become aware of the Lord who loves you.

While messing with your own to-do list today, center down and allow Christ’s Spirit to sustain you. Learn to live with the load of the unfinished!

Joy to you - E. Stanley Ott
