KINGDOM COME

January 9, 2014

Herod was a literalist.  When he heard a new king may have come into his kingdom, he wanted to do something about that.  But Jesus and Herod understood "kingdom" quite differently.

"The coming of the kingdom of God not something that can be observed, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or "There it is,' because the kingdom of God is in your midst."
                                              ---Luke 17:20,21 TNIV

In whose kingdom do we reside?  Wherever we live today, we can live like we live in the kingdom of God, if we choose.  We can look at the pains, the plight, the sadness, the triumph, the celebrations, we can look at them all through the eyes of God, if we desire.  It's part of what it means to follow Jesus.

Herod, and much of our world even today, only looks at the surface, the obvious.  When you read the paper, gaze upon a blog, or hear the evening news, remember as a follower of Jesus, you want to see the world through the eyes of Jesus as a resident of the Kingdom of God...it's in your midst.

Joyfully,
